A beautiful antique English oak biscuit barrel featuring richly figured quarter-sawn oak, polished nickel-plated mounts, and its original porcelain liner with removable oak lid. Originally found on the Victorian and Edwardian tea table, biscuit barrels were designed to keep biscuits crisp while adding a touch of elegance to afternoon tea.

The warm oak grain is complemented by handsome shield-shaped brass escutcheons and a graceful swing handle, creating a piece that is as decorative today as it is functional. The original porcelain liner elevates this example above many biscuit barrels of the period, reflecting the quality craftsmanship of late Victorian and Edwardian English tablewares.

Whether styled on a kitchen counter, pantry shelf, or sideboard, it makes a beautiful vessel for cookies, wrapped treats, tea bags, or simply as a sculptural decorative accent.

England, circa 1890–1915.
