A stunning example of late 19th-century craftsmanship, this authentic antique wall mirror perfectly bridges old-world European elegance with the dawn of early American industrial plate glass manufacturing. Featuring a beautifully preserved, cushion-style frame with a rich faux burr wood or faux-tortoiseshell veneer finish and a deep ebonized outer border, this piece brings instant character, historic depth, and warmth to any space.

Authentic Mercury-Tin Amalgam Mirror: The glass exhibits the highly sought-after, classic "liquid-wave" distortion near the bottom edge. This unmistakable, watery reflection is a definitive signature of the historic tin-mercury backing process used prior to mass-market chemical silvering. Original Stenciled Backing: The reverse features a prominent, historic stencil stamp reading "No. 3 AM. PLATE." This authentic mark verifies the glass as early domestic American Plate glass, dating the assembly or distribution to circa 1860–1890. Hand-Crafted Wood Construction: The mirror is safely sealed by its original, single-panel solid pine or poplar backboard with beautifully chamfered (angled) edges. Held in place by period-accurate, hand-driven framing pins, the wood has naturally dehydrated over the last 140+ years. This natural curing process leaves the mirror remarkably lightweight and easy to handle while creating authentic organic shrinkage gaps along the frame bed.
